William Johnson - Susan Ellis, Essex/Middlesex/Solihill/Staffs
I'm having trouble tracking down my G-G-grandfather William Johnson. Not only does he have a very common name, but he moved around the country a lot and I don't know where he was born (I hope the 1901 census gets fixed *really* soon)
This is what I know:
He was a gardener, and worked in Hampstead, Middlesex in 1874.
In 1874 he married Susan Ellis in Hornchurch, Essex.Susan is an Essex native (b. Blackmore, Essex around 1850) and daugther of Charles Ellis and Sarah (possibly Sarah Clarke).
His father was also called William Johnson, and was an agricultural labourer.
He was 27 when he married which means he was born around 1847.
He had at least 4 children, possibly five.Edwin, Thomas, Agnes and Charles are definites. There might be an Ethel as well although I have no proof of this.
Susan was living with her parents in Essex at least up until 1881 along with with her first three children (Edwin, Thomas and Agnes). No sign of William.
I know William wasn't dead in 1881 as Charles was born in 1885.
At some point between 1881 and 1885 the family moved to the Acock's Green area of Solihull and remained there.Susan died in 1934 aged 83 still living in Acock's Green.
Edwin was born in Compton, Staffordshire (1876)
Thomas was born in Great Barr, Birmingham (1879)
Agnes was born in Hornchurch, Essex (1881)
Agnes married someone whose surname was Adams around the turn of the century (possible a character called Alfred Dorman Adams).
Charles married a Maud Barlow.
If any of this rings a bell, email me and help me track down my elusive ancestor.
