John H. JOHNSON died at his home in Perrysville, Ind. October 5, 1911, aged 76 years, 8 months and 2 days.He was born in Cuyahoga County, OHIO, February 3, 1835, and came to Vermillion County in 1852.He was married to Jane Benefiel in 1858 and to this union was born two daughters Dora and Lou (Luella).His first wife died in 1862.He enlisted in Co. F, 14th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry and served faithfully as a soldier in the Union army until the close of the war when he received an honorable discharge.
He was then married April 7, 1867, to Elizabeth(BALL)EDWARDS
and to this union 6 children were born: Thomas of Terre Haute, IN, David, Albert, Emily, Alexander and Jennie, all of whom survive except Lou and Alexander.The second wife died Feb 17, 1886.Besides his children he is survived by three sisters and 2 brothers.
This is my GGG Grandfather.This is verbatim from his obit.I found a few discrepancies re: dates of marriage and death of Elizabeth.I would love to hear from any of the children's great grandchildren or relatives.
Thomas married a Mary Louisa LOPP in 1888 and they divorced in 1896 (Vermilion Co., IL)
Albert married Minnie
Jennie married a Louis B. Roberts
Lou (Luella) married a George McCOWN.
I have found out that John H. JOHNSON's father's name was Thomas JOHNSON and his mother was Lucinda HUNTER.
Do any of these names sound familiar to anyone???
