Francis Asbury Johnson, Colored Troop, 22nd Co. F
Looking for any descendants of Francis A. Johnson who fought in the Civil War Colored Troop and company noted above. Francis sustained a mortal wound in action July 4, 1864, at Petersburg.
Francis was born ca. 1848 in either MD or PA, and was the son of Rev. William and Eliza (both of whom were born into slavery in Maryland). Rev. Johnson, an AME pastor, was reassigned from Waverly, PA, to Kinderhook, NY, where young Francis Asbury went to die Feb. 3, 1865, at age 17.
Information is being gathered for a book about the Underground Railroad, and UGRR fugatives in Waverly, PA.
