U.S. census records identify Martin Johnston & wife Maria Calvin in 1850 New Jersey, as research continues.

1850 Monmouth Co., New Jersey, Upper Freehold township, 5th August, p. 680:

Martin Johnston - 32 - Labourer - born Ireland (born about 1818)
Maria - 23 - Ireland (born about 1827)
William - 3 - Ireland (born about 1847)
Eliza Ann - 1 - New Jersey (born about 1849)

This census indicates that the Johnstons emigrated from Ireland about 1848, between births of children William and Eliza Ann.
