I know it's hard to hear that census forms might be destroyed after they're used by the government. But you need to understand that the US Constitution authorizes only one question to be asked by the census taker and that is "how many people live here full time?" That's it. Even having the head of household give his name is problematic. The government does not have a "need to know" about when or where parents were born, literacy, acres owned etc. Yes, it's wonderful to find more info on ancestors, but you need to remember that a "census" is a fancy name for "inventory". The US Constitution does not authorize any of the departments or expenditures that we are told the census will help fund. Our ancestors came here for opportunity, yes, but most of all for freedom - freedom from governments that tend to think people are for its benefit rather than the other way around.
The census was used in 1942 to round up Japanese Americans after Pearl Harbor. History shows us that the information can be used for very serious mischief.
"X number of people reside here. Period."
Liberty first.
