Re: Henry G. Jones. Wake Co. Nc
That is a GREAT clue! Thanks!!
Edgecombe Co. William Jones Nov 27, 1749. Aug Court 1750. Sons Dreury, Peter (“plantation whereon I now live”), Isam (grist mill). Arbitrators to divide land: Thomas Hill, George Nicholson, John Clark, Wallis Jones. Executors: Sarah Jones (wife), and Wallis Jones. Wit: Thomas Thrower, William Atkison, Winnifred Atkison.
Yes, this is Henry's brother. His first wife was a dau of Robert Rives and they had a son Robert Rives Jones. If the Rives research is correct, Robert Rives was a brother of William Reeves/Rives whose land adj Henry Jones' land. The Rives came from Jones Hole Swamp in Surry Co.
Wallis Jones was son of John Jones, Henry and William's brother.
William and John Jones' land was on Rocky Swamp in Edgecombe - the same location where Henry Jones Jr's 400a grant was. The 100a that Henry deeded to William Simmons came from this grant. Wallis Jones wit the deed.
6 May 1742, Edgecombe Co., NC HENRY JONES received a grant of 400 acres in Edgecombe County on Rocky Swamp, joining Black's line, a swamp and Rogers corner., Pg. 167, #2355
Nov. 1743, Henry Jones of Northampton Co., for good cause and considerations, to my beloved Godson, William Simmons, 100 acres more or less joining Roggers. . . all houses, orchards, etc., and the sd. William is to let his father and mother, JOHN and ANN SIMMONS, have their living on the sd. tract. Witnesses: WALLIS JONES, Isreal Robertson, Thomas Honey. Registered Edgecombe Co., Court, November 1743; Halifax Co., NC Bk. 5, Pgs. 201-202.
At the same time, Henry Jones deeded 200a from this tract to Thomas Honey. He seems to have kept the last 100a.
I am not familiar with the Gheesling manuscripts. Where can this be found?
