Suzie, The original Jongewaards got started in and around Westzaan. Pieter Cornelisz
Jongewaard was born about 1610. His son Cornelis was born in 1641 and married Wentje Symonsd 13-1-1664. Their son Pieter was born in 1665. Pieter was an important town fixture. I believe his name is on a cornerstone of the old courthouse or townhall. He was town treasurer, and owned an inn, now called Le Prinz (it's currently operating). P.C. Jongewaard, who died in 1709, is in a grave inside the old church. His gravestone is in the floor. P.C. was great great grandfather of Ringert, who came to Iowa in 1848 and apparently died that same year (does anyone have any info. on this?).
His four sons are our U.S. ancestors. You are probably descended from Arie or Klaas (Nikolas), both of whom went out to the Pacific Northwest. Arie died rather young (Yakima, WA I believe), but Klaas lived into his late 80's. I am descended from Albert, yet another brother. His son Teunis is my great grandfather, and ended up in Minnesota.
That's how I got here! What are you doing in Holland? Best wishes with your search. Mal Winter has the most-detailed file through 12 generations (my generation) of Jongewaards (I was born in 1947). Regards, Steve
