Re: Australian Kassel's?
Yes! George Victor Kassel was my GG grandfather.
Story as told by my grandfather, George V Kassel's grandson is that George's father was Gustav Kassell. He was in the Swedish navy. The eldest male son in Sweden at the time had to go into teh Army, navy or airforce. He came to Australia once on the navy ship and said if he ever comes here again he wouldn't go home. he did come again and jumped ship. He dropped one L to make Kassell into Kassel to make it harder to track him and changed his name to the Australian equivalent George. I have been told he wrote letters but i have no idea to who and where they would be.
Before that there is a story that the name was originally Andersson and that someone Gustav's father (possibly grandfather) was the Bishop of Kalmar and that when one became a bishop they changed their name and he took Kassell. These are family stories so i have no idea how much truth there is to them adn i have had no luck following them.
Back to George Victor Kassel. He married a Lucy Earle or Earl. His children were (not in order and not sure of correct spelling) John Harold (my great grandfather), Eva, Rueben, Victor, Claude and Eric.
John Harold Kassel married Ida Marion Treloar and gave birth to George Harold Treloar Kassel who is my grandfather.
I am also looking for more information. let me know if you know anything else.
