I've been chasing my Kaufmanns all over Europe and my clues are not coming together with what was written anywhere.I saw your St Michaels Lutheran Church posting, and I noticed I had a postcard my great-grandfather received showing the interior of a church called St. Michel's in Erbach im Odenwald--a Lutheran Church. My family loved to send postcards to one another of churches either they attended or the party they were sending it to.But what really caught my eye was the name "Melchior Kauffmann".I think I just found my GGG grandfather's home town not really where I expected to find it at all-- in Zuerichtal, Crimea, Russia (Chrestoph Kaufmann (b. 1808) and Friederike (Gunthner) Kaufmann (b. 1812)).And that "Chrestoph here, ("Christoph" in Russia's records, was the son of a Daniel Kaufmann, also born in Zuerichtal(1778-1812).But there also is a Melchior Kaufmann:
•Name: Melchior Kaufmann
•Sex: M
•Birth: 30 OCT 1814 in Zürichtal Krim
He can't be the son of Daniel (who died in 1812), (who MIGHT be my GGG), but might be the brother of my Chrestoph/Christoph.
I was struck by your "Melchior" being a family name.Do you know if any of your guys ended up in Crimea or St. Petersburg, Russia--even if briefly in their travels.
Thanks for reading this!
