I correspond with Larry Kea regularly. He now feels that we cannot connect the Warren Key (Kea) line from Darlinton, SC/ Emmanuel County, Georgia or his line, the William Thomas Kea line from Darlington, South Carolina with the Isle of Wright "Key/Kee/Kea/Kae/Keie" family on paper. We have been looking for a known male Key/Kea surnmaed descendant of the Isle of Wright family with a paper trail, and we may have found one. A recent YDna tester, lists his earliest known ancestor as Charles Kea b. 1740 in Isle of Wright Co., Va. We are waiting to see his documentation. Many of us in our YDna "Key, Kea, Kee" group have looked at the Isle of Wright family because of the spelling similarities.
Are you sure that you are not from the Warren Key(Kea)b. 1784, Burrell Kea b.1810 (Darlinton, SC then moved to Emmanuel Co. with his father, Warren Key), James W. Kea b. 1834 Emmanuel Co. line from Emmanuel Co., Ga.?Burrell Kea was the oldest son of Warren Key (Kea). My husband is descended from Warren Key's 14th and youngest son, John Nelson Key. This is from the Key/Key and Related Families book by Hutchinson. We now know due to YDna gentic testing that many of the connections in the Lane "Key" genealogy and the stories (such as the one that we are related to the Francis Scott Key family from Maryland) in the Hutchinson book are not accurate.
I will look at the North Carolina source that you mentioned. Two men in our YDna group do have documentation of their earliest known ancestor coming from Wake Co., NC.
Thanks for writing back.If you are from the Warren Key/Kea line from Emmanuel County, Ga. We have found many interesting connections through YDna testing that I would be happy to share with you.Unfortunately, we have not yet found our original immigrant ancestor to the US (probably from Great Britain).
