Re: Elmer Keene The Artist
I'm a collector of Elmer Keene and I have been searching for information
about six years but it appears there is
little information known about him. All I have managed to find out about
Lived in Leicester.Exhibited one painting at the Royal Academy in 1895
- the subject was a view in Burniston Bay in Yorkshire. Elmer Keene was
a mainly a postcard artist who painted over 2000 postcards!! Painted
mainly landscapes and marine scenes.
I have six prints - lithographs of Dartmoor and Lee & Woode Bay
in Cornwall and four untitled. I also have identical postcards - which
seems to suggest that for every postcard, there could be an identical
painting and prints! I have about 200 postcards and a listing of over
1000 unique postcards, there are also Black & White, Sepia and Colour
versions of each card as well! Auctions in the UK carry few of his work.
have also got an engraving titled "At the Crossroads" and an original
painting of a coastal scene.
Also "Picture Postcard Monthly" also ran about 5 articles in the 80's
covering some of his work.
Not much else is known. Sister Minnie (also postcard artist). No dates
birth or death.
The picture you have is a nice one and is most likely part of a series,
showing english country scenes. Two of my prints are very similiar, but
If you have any more questions, please get in touch. Can't promise to
