Re: Kendrew - South Africa - 19th century??
I was raised on the farm 'Kendrew Estates' which surrounds the "village" of Kendrew (located near Graaff-Reinet in the Eastern Cape of South Africa). I am not sure of my facts, but I am led to believe that the farm and the settlement were named after the person (possibly an engineer?) who was responsible for the construction of the railway line from Port Elizabeth to Graaff-Reinet.
I could try and establish more facts if you require?
