Contract dated 5th October, 1590,
Archibald Kennedy, son and heir of Martin Kennedy in Barnkirk,
sold to John Kennedy all right and title to the four merkland of Balneil.
On the 14th December, 1602, John Kennedy was in possession.
N.A.S. GD141/85 Contract registered at Edinburgh, 23 June 1617,
between William Adair of Kinhilt on the one part
and John Kennedy of BALNEIL on the other part
whereby Adair sells to Kennedy and his heirs male
...(son Gilbert Kennedy mc.1603 Helen Adair, sister of William Adair)
the 10 merkland of Kildonane and Drumoir and its castle,
together with the advocation of the Kirk of Kirkmadyn and the mill of Drumoir,
the 5 merkland of Creichan, the 2½ merkland of Cardyne,
the 2½ merkland of Mulknok and Kernegereoche,
in the parish of Kirkmadyn, in Rennis;
paying in feu ferme £40:10:-Scots;
Adair to deliver all rights to and tacks of the teinds made to the late Ninian Adair "my father"
by Mr. John Johnstone or by Sir John Kennedy who had right thereof as abbot of Sailsait
before the dismembering of that abbey.
Constituting Mr. Alexander Cumyng his procurator. At Staniekirk
27 Mar 1609
