Re: Kenning´s in Germany
My mother was Mildred Kenning, daughter of Anthony Kenning and Emma Upschulte (sp?). Anthony was the son of Joseph and Mary Kenning. Joseph and Mary emmigrated from Germany to Quincy Illinois with 8 of their 10 children. 2 children were older and remained in Germany. As the story goes, Joe & Mary emmigrated in the late 1800s from Germany to Quincy because Joe had a job as the 1st lay president (or dean) of Quincy college. This Kenning family, until recent generations, is almost entirely Roman Catholic. Sorry I don't have more absolute detail, but about 15 to 20 years ago, a cousin, Mike Kenning of Quincy built a family tree and traced the family back to their hometown in Germany. He traveled back to the hometown and met with descendants of the 2 remaining ancestors. If you search for Kenning in Quincy Illinois, the results will all be relatives.
