DAVID kENNISON, Last Survivor of Boston Tea Party
We would like to voice our opinions on David Kennison, the famed last survivor of "The Boston Tea Party" as we are his direct descendents.
We have written several libraries and their research and facts proved that David Kennison was NOT an imposter as some would like to think.David was indeed born 1736, participated in the Boston Tea Party, died in Chicago in 1852 and had twenty- two children. The libraries have David'sgenealogy records from birth date, parents, siblings, etc. going back to the immigrant. Since they have actual records made available to them we will go along with what they say.You would like to think bi public libraries tell the truth.
There seems to be many octogenarians alive today who are his direct descendents. My line included. My line also has extremely long longevity.
Some family letters in regards to whom David's parents were differ from what the libraries say. This is not uncommon... as many children as they bore it would be easy to be confused.David's one brother had thirty- one children along with many nephews and nieces.
In Albert Overton's article, "David Kennison and The Chicago Sting" listed under Notes:#13 Mr. Overton thought David could be born from 1763-1772.The only David of that period was David's Dad great-nephew who was born 1785.
As far as David giving the wrong age repeatedly when questioned by the government for his service pension...we are at a loss why anyone would lie.Since the rest of his story can be validated we believe it was maybe because he was illiterate as dates and years meant nothing to him.Perhaps it was from his head injury from one of the wars he fought in.Perhaps he was so poor and with so many children maybe their diet was poor which effected his memory. This is even substantiated by doctors today. Perhaps arteriosclerosis may have been a factor or just nerves having to be in front of a government panel to decide his pension. Since David came from a Quaker background we find it hard to believe that he would have purposely prefabricated his dates and kept it going for decades.Surely he would have kept it in sequence it he purposely set out to deceive them.
He was NOT an imposter in our opinion so it is time to let the poor man rest in peace. David's descendents have many devout Christians and this is not fair to the families past or present.
