Recurring Given Names

By Graham F Coward June 30, 2010 at 03:22:23

In the 18th and 19th centuries, many families used a small number of given names, generation after generation. In most cases this was a single given name and confusion easily occurs between families.

My Kenny family from various locations in England and Ireland had a habit of using double given names over and over. Some examples are Edward Luke, Mary Louisa, Elizabeth Ann and Robert Henry. Also the name Strange was given to several girls as a second name in combination with several different first names.

If anyone has any of these names in their family tree I would appreciate hearing from them. I feel that they would ALMOST certainly be related.
