I hire a genealogist in Dublin to get the records for me.He makes photocopies and sends them to me of the originals for much less.I have access to online resources for much less as well instead of charging just to search or view results.I don't mind paying for a record if it is a copy of the original scanned in.But I've spent 10x more on that site and got nothing than i've spend in entire year of research and managed to uncover almost all the missing people in my family.

When it comes to the E or not, I think it really doesn't matter down the line it was a completely different spelling anyway.I'm just saying for records purposes finding the accurate people having the correct spelling helps. I'm positive our line was EY, back to at least 1780's.Another oral tradition was that we did have relatived in Pennsylvania and there were some who came there and Maine as early as late 1600's.DNA will help with that.

Yeah I have all the records of the Trinity Without, and Thomas is not there, but since you mentioned the Irish naming convention I have to agree.I tracked the naming and it seems certain that Thomas followed the tradition, simply because his third son was named Thomas.He had 11 kids.His first son (as far as I know because there are some missing years) was Patrick so I'm willing to bet his father was Patrick. We found a Patrick Kenney in Trinity without baptize a Bridget Kenney, with the wife Catherine O'Keeffe.I also found on some Canadian ship lists a P Kenney and wife,with a B Kenney and child under 12 so its possible that was them.

But its all speculation.

Problem was most of the records don't exist until AFTER Thomas was born. Only Trinity without and within had its records in 1797.Thomas was born around 1800-1804.

Bridget his sister there is no record of her or Daniel having children but there are plenty of Coughlins in the St Thomas area.I couldn't find a death record or any record of her in St Thomas.Funny later on around 1918 a great grandson of his was drafted along with a Coughlin in St Thomas.Both of them are side by side in the St Thomas newpaper.
