Though my family's name is spelled Kenney that is not going to stop me from thinking there might be a connection here. Here is what I know about my family.
Simon and his brother left Galway Ireland in the 1840s during the great potato famine with their parents. They lived in Boston and eventually Simon and his brother ran away from home and enlisted in the Civil war.Being underage they took up the last name Walton.Sometime after the war I have Simon living in Indiana where he worked on the Wabash Cannonball. He was fired for setting a speed record. He was eventually killed for a gambling debt.He had 3 sons and a daughter Mary Drollinger Walton. One son,Michael, changed his name back to Kenney and moved to Wyoming.Michael was my great great grandfather,he died in 1926 in Colorado.Nothing is known about the daughter and two sons of Simon,or his brother. He might have changed his name back, but my cousin and I aren't sure. All this information I have listed has come from family members passed down from one to the next.I have no paperwork documenting the Kenney brothers as soldiers in the war.Right now without proof this is hard to say if it all happened, but it is what we have believed.I am currently trying to find record of Simon in the war.I would place a birth year about 1920-1930.Broad range, but I don't want to exclude a year in case it is the one.Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Rebecca
