Kent/Sherman house - Kent, Ohio
Hello, I am looking for any information I can get on a house that was built by the Kent's in Kent Ohio and was owned by a Dr Aaron Sherman (possibly under a different first name) in the 1870s through the early 1900s. Dr Sherman was a surgeon during the Civil war, and he eventually moved out to California and sold the house.
I asked a friend who is more knowledgeable about the residence than I am, and this is the response she gave to me:
...it once stood on the northeast corner of Erie Street and Water, across the street from Sue Nelson Designs [It was moved in the 1920s]. I do not have the original parcel number, unfortunately, but that could be found I suppose. I do not know if Zenas [Kent] himself built it but somehow I would not be surprised. It may have been built around 1853, give or take. Sherman bought the house from Frances [Kent] and George Wells in 1870 and sold it in 1904 to move to California, he sold it to a Dr. Jacob. That is what I know for starters. There is a book that Kent Free Library may have that is a Bicentennial Atlas that has some prints from 1874 that show this house as being the residence of Dr. Sherman, and it may include the plot number in it...
I am goingto the library to look up the information, but in the mean time, I am looking for any possible information that anyone may have in their genealogical records that would otherwise take me a while to find. This house is slated for demolition to make way for a project that the university is doing, and the only way to save it is to prove the connection between the house and the city and/or University (Kent State).
Any and all assistance would be appreciated. Thank you!
