William Kenyon of Accrington. born c.1808
I have some old family notes, undated, on which this posting is based andthe events appear to be basedin Accrington, Lancashire. Elizabeth, born about 1811 (?), daughter of William Kenyon, married William Nutter born about 1808 (have found no marriage record) and a son, William was born about 1844.The family notes say on this marriage the Kenyon estates passed to the Nutter family, also that William (c.1808) was descended from the Nutter's of Rough Lee in Pendle Forest. The home in Accrington of William and Elizabeth was called Rough Lee, it was a substantial stone built property in its own grounds which in later years (I think the late 1920s) became a maternity home (indeed, I was born there). In the family notes there is mention of the Nutter house in Whalley Road Accrington which was later,in 1881 (census) occupied by a Dr William Geddie born c.1851 in Scotland together with his family.
I want to find more about the Kenyon family, firstly, who was William Kenyon's wife (Elizabeth's mother) The IGI includes several Elizabeth Kenyon's within the time of 1811 +/- but which is the correct entry?Secondly, if the Kenyon estates passed to the Nutter family, what was William Kenyon's background>.Was William Kenyon a mill owner, an industrialist, how did he accumulate his assets?
Grateful for any help
Gerry
