I found Benjamin R. Kerchner, age 22, master blacksmith, recently married to Louisa Stroub, age 18, both born in PA, in the 1860 census of Juniata Co PA living in Susquehanna Twsp. See census page 797, dwelling 1641 for more details. In 1870 we find Benjamin, age 32, still working as a blacksmith, and his family in Crawford Twsp, Crawford Co KS, page 363, dwelling 181. And then in 1880 we find Benjamin, age 42, still working as a blacksmith, with his family in Jackson Twsp, Sullivan Co IN, p.428b, dwelling 82. So he moved around quite a bit.
I believe that Louisa was probably the d/o Michael Stroub of Juniata Co PA. Can anyone confirm this?
Does anyone know who was the father of this Benjamin R. Kerchner? Was he born in the Juniata Co PA area? I have speculated that this Benjamin R. Kerchner may have been a son of Reuben Kerchner of Delaware Twsp, Juniata Co PA. This Reuben Kerchner had some children named with the same names that Benjamin R. Kerchner used for some of his children, such as Lewis and Jennie. But there is no mention of a son named Benjamin in the estate file for Reuben Kerchner, which was probated in the mid 1880's. Does anyone know for sure who this Benjamin R. Kerchner of Susquehanna Twsp, Juniata Co PA in 1860, later found in KS and then later in IN, belongs to and exactly where and when he was born? Does anyone know the exact date and location of the marriage of this Benjamin R. Kerchner and Louisa Stroub? Any help will be sincerely appreciated.
