Kerrn/Sears Family
Just found information from a book entitled ~
THE KERN FAMILY
Of Rowan County, North Carolina, Nicholas County, Kentucky
Boone, Clinton, Lawrence, Monroe Counties, Indiana
Hancock County, Illinois
Lee County, Iowa
Limited Edition Printed 1968
Compiled by Mary Margaret Kern Garrard
Descendant of Conrad Kern, Adam, Sr., through Adam, Jr.
In collaboration with Stanley Kern, Jr.
On page 47 of the above book is the written the following:
SUSAN KERN [SEARS]
Fifth daughter of Adam Kern, Sr.
Susan Kern is the only one ot Adam Kern, Sr.'s children we have not been able to trace. We do not have her birth date, though it was undoubtedly early in 1800 or shortly thereafter in Nicholas County, Ky. She married Adam Sears (half-brother of David, husband of Anna Kem, and half-brother of Susan, wife of William Kern) on Oct. 26, 1819 in Nicholas County, Ky. Nothing is known of their family though it is suggested one of their daughters married an Avery and that a daughter, Louisa, married a Kendall. A Mrs. Maurice Hickey of Elnora, Ind., is a descendant, but knows nothing of family history (1966). One family member reports that Adam and Susan went to Bolanger County, Mo. (there is no such county now; could it be Bollinger County?), then later went west. Another report says Adam was a preacher, died in Missouri.
By the age of the book [1968], I I'm not sure if the compiler and the collaborator are still around, but their descendants may be.
However, in the event family members may be looking for the information on Adam Sears and Susan/Susanah Kern Sears - below is the small bit of information:
Obituary of Susanah Kern Sears
Dear and Beloved Bro. Goodwin: - it becomes my painful duty to inform you and the readers of the Record of the death of my dear companion Susanah Sears, who departed this life, October the 2nd, after an illness of 8 months, caused by bruises she received by falling; most of which time she was helpless. About two months before her death, she lost her mind, and continued so until a few moments before her death, when she recognized her friends, and spoke a few words of consolation, and then calmly fell asleep in the arms of our blessed Redeemer.
She became a member of the Newlight church at old Concord, Nicholas County, Ky, at the age of 17 years: 4 years after she united with the Dunkard church, in Indiana; remained 10 years with that denomination, when a union was effected between the Baptist, Dunkards, Newlights and Reformers, and she went into the union with her companion and continued there until her death. She died in her 59th year, leaving seven daughters and her companion to mourn her loss, but we mourn not as those who have no hope, for we have confidence in Him in whom she trusted and are sure that if we continue faithfully we shall meet again where there will be no more separation forever, Eld. Adam Sears.

Adam Sears did very much become a preacher.
