Bruce,
I have little on the Reed family. I do know that James' younger sister Abigail married John Reed and later moved to california. I assume that Abigail and John were related, but have no direct info.
James' father was John Kerr, born in 1774. His wife, Anne Conner (1778-1844) was the daughter of David Conner and Abigail Rhodes. She was the sister of Commodore David Conner. John's parents were Josiah Kerr (b1757) and Sara Reynolds. Josiah's parents were James Kerr and Sara Howard. He was the some of Alexander Kerr from Roxburgshire, Scotland.
The informattion I have comes from a couple of sources. The John and Anne family info comes from a hand typed letter from Albert Kerr, son of James (wife Julia B Smith) in 1924 and I consider completely accurate. The Kerr ancestry back to Alexander is from a book, the Biography of James Kerr (the congressman) by James White published in 1928. There have been a few questions raised by some of that info. One in particular is that James (the congressman) was the son of James and Margaret (Daugherty) Kerr instead of Abigail Reed.
