Gerald P. Kierce Obituary
LOWELL - Gerald P. Kierce, a resident of the Highlands section of Lowell who was a World War II veteran and a former regional director for a state agency overseeing disability services, died Sunday, Jan 26, at Northwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Lowell after a long illness. He was 75.
He was born in Lowell on Feb. 19, 1927, son of the late James F. and Mary A.(Griffin) Kierce. He graduated from Lowell's Keith Academy in 1944, and received a bachelor's degree at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, and his master's in education at Boston University.
Mr. Kierce served in the Navy during the war. For 28 years, he worked for the state's Disability Determination Services in Boston and Worcester. In 2000, he retired from the commission as a regional director. He was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Worcester.
Mr. Kierce is survived by a brother, the Rev. J. Joseph Kierce of Boston's Dorchester; two sisters, Mary McLean and her husband James of Marblehead, and Eleanor Quinn and her husband Edward of Lowell; also two nieces and a nephew. He was also the brother of the late Thomas E. Kierce of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico.
