My great grandmother was Bridget Killeen. She was married to Anthony Duffy in Kilcummin, County Mayo. They had 5 sons there.
They came to Archbald, PA, around 1882 with their five sons, Bridget's parents (Owen and Ann Killeen), and Bridget's three sisters:Ann, Margaret, and Catherine.
Bridget's two brothers stayed in Kilcummin. They were Martin and Sean.Martin had at least 9 kids.I met one of Martin's grandson's for the first time this past August. His nickname is Artie Killeen.Artie is a second cousin, once removed.
My great grandmother helped several of Martin's children to come to the U.S., including Artie's dad.The siblings were supposed to travel on the Titanic, but Artie's dad lost his boarding pass. The others wouldn't make the trip without him.So, they waited to catch another ship and, by the grace of God, escaped the tragedy of the Titanic.
After arriving in the U.S., a couple of the Killeen siblings decided they didn't like it and they returned to Kilcummin.Artie's dad was one of the one's who returned.
Some of the Killeen siblings did stay in the U.S.If the above story is in your family, then you may be related to me through those Killeen siblings who stayed.
Please contact me if the story sounds familiar to you.Artie Killeen, my cousin, is very interested in re-connecting with the descendants of his aunts and uncles who stayed here in the States.
