Jean, I know a lot about the Kim family in Ohio.Through the other genforum researchers, Mary Garrett and Shannon Phillips and because of help from Athens County Historical Society and Meigs County Historical Society. This is what I have learned from them collectively.
Ambrose Kim came from Germany or Baden in 1843He married Susan Frost about 1843 and had Joseph E or H. Kim 1844, Mary Maria 1847 and Robert 1849.(On the Pittsburgh PA 1850 census)
Susan died sometime after 1849.The family moved to Meigs County, Olive Township and Ambrose m. Elizabeth Maria Wedge Mason. Her first husband, John Buck Mason died July 1852 leaving her with seven children.[I'm connected through Elizabeth's daughter, Mary Elizabeth who married David Chevalier.]
Ambrose and Elizabeth were married September 4, 1855 in Athens County, Ohio.I guess she helped raise Ambrose's children and they had one son, John Kim, born 1857.On the 1880 census Elizabeth and John Kim were living in Troy Township, Athens Co. Ohio.I don't know what happened to JOHN KIM, would your mother-in-law know?
Ambrose was in the Civil War, Company B, 75th Infantry Regiment Ohio.Ambrose is buried in Tiffany Cemetery near Tuppers Plains.(No dates on his grave.)Many Kims are buried in Tuppers Plains.
Through the sources I mentioned above and also a Wedge family researcher, I learned of John Kim last summer and of Elizabeth's marriage to Ambrose.
By the way, I have seen the name written "Kim" "Kimm" and "McKim"It's truly remarkable!
You can answer me privately if you wish.I'll be glad to help, although Mary and Shannon are more closely related and more knowledgeable about the family. Zoe
