Worthen/Kimball Family Album (Vermont, c. 1897)
This large embossed cordovan leather album with steel clasp contains studio portraits taken in and around Montpelier, Vermont.A copy of a resolution passed by the Alpha Sigma Pi Fraternity of Norwich University on the death of Frank Z. Kimball in 1889 probably informs of the period when the portraits were taken. Most of the portraits appear to have been taken during the same few years.
Judging solely from the number of pictures of her, the album appears to have been owned by La Della Kimball Worthen and the only names particularly mentioned are Rev. Horace Worthen, Achsa Ann Ayer Worthen, Edward Worthen, Frank Kimball and a woman who might be his wife. There is a married couple with a child in a portrait from Denver, Colorado.
The portraits are done on heavy card stock and most of them are in fine condition.
Twenty-seven of the portraits are approximately 4 x 6 inches and twenty nine are approximately 2 x 3 inches.
Some of the smaller portraits are of soldiers in uniform.A few of the larger portraits staged in interior settings.
The binding is in some need of repair. While the interior of the album is mainly intact, the binding's spine was not strong enough for the heft of the book. Please contact me if you are interested in the contents of this album.
