ADELIA/ADELA LEE KING GRIMSLEY b. Feb 1840 AL

By Barbara McNamara June 01, 2013 at 07:47:20

Searching for descendants of ADELIA/ADELA (nee LEE) KING GRIMSLEY to gather additional family information.

On 1900 Mobile Co AL census, Adelia is shown as 'widowed', having FIVE children (5 living in 1900). She is living with her twin sons, John H. King b. Sep 1876 and Charles B. King b. Sep 1876. These two young men are working as Railroad Conductors.

Who is the natural father of these two young men (their father is shown on 1900 census as born in Canada)? Where and when did Adelia marry Mr. King and when did he die?

Adelia is on the 1880 Mobile Co AL census as wife of William Dixon Grimsley. This census lists four children in this household -- all shown as children of William:
1. Joseph G. Grimsley age 8
2. Charley Grimsley age 4 (twin)
3. John Grimsley age 4 (twin)
4. Bell W. Grimsley age 1

Apparently the four children on the 1880 census were actually Adelia's children with Mr. King.Who is the fifth child of Adelia Lee King?

Adelia Lee King, a widow, married William Dixon Grimsley on 12 Aug 1879 in Mobile Co AL (Mobile Co Marriage Book 28, page 204).

Mobile Co death records show Adelia Lee King Grimsley died 27 Aug 1900, buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Sq. 27, Lot 102. Her tombstone reads: "ADELA KING GRIMSLEY 1835-1900"

If someone has additional information on Adelia and her children, please contact me directly: [email protected]

I believe Adelia's son Charles B. King b. Sep 1876 is also buried in Magnolia Cemetery. I found Memorial #51428306 on Find-A-Grave.com. There is a photo of a large white marble above-ground crypt with engraving:
"CHARLES B., Sept. 11, 1876 - June 10, 1952".
