I have not run across a Benjamin Butler. I wonder if Hawkins Kirby's given name comes from Pierce Butler's line. He was the son of Thomas Butler and Eleanor Parker. He married Mildred Hawkins and their son Thomas also married a Hawkins. In some old family letters I have found mention of an " old aunt Hawkins ". These letters also mention the three/four Kirbys that married Butlers.

I know this doesn't help much. Thanks for the reply.
