In regard to the James L Kiby listed in the 1900 census in Mecklenburg Co, NC (Charlotte, Wd 4) - This James L Kirby is my grandfather's half-brother.His half-siblings are William M Kirby, Fanny Kirby, Harvey Kirby and Eddia J Kirby. They are listed in the 1880 NC census (Caldwell Co, Lenoir Twp.Parents are William Kirby and Mary (Richards) Kirby.Mother's maiden name listed on Harvey's death certificate.Harvey's father is listed on the death certificate as John Kirby.I think that John Kirby may be the older brother of William Kirby and the father of Linn, Maude, and James L Kirby listed in the 1900 census. In the 1850 NC Caldwell Co census the Squire Kirby family is listed with sons John and William. This William is the right age to be the father of the family listed in the 1880 NC Caldwell Co. census.
This James L Kirby was buried 24 Feb 1944 in Elmwood Cemetery in Charlotte, NC beside his half-brother Harvey G Kirby, my grandfather. I have a letter from the city of Charlotte indicating the location of these graves. He is also the James Kirby married to Eva in the 1920 census records. His son may be the James L Kirby you are looking for.
If any of this info matches your data please let me know and if I can help further I will be glad to do so.
