Mathew Biggart Kirk was one one of the sons of James Johnston Kirk and Jane Walker.James was born in Lancaster County, SC.His parents were Mathew Kirk and Grace Johnston.James was one of eight surviving children.He had three brothers.Williiam and Robert also moved to Alabama, to the Pickens County area.Their other brother, for whom your Mathew B. was named, remained in South Carolina, near the town of Elgin.Mathew (b. 1760), the husband of Grace, came to this country in late 1772 through the port of Charles' Town as it was known in those days.He was born one of four sons in Ballymoney, Antrim, Northern Ireland.His brothers were named James, John and Robert.James remained in Ireland, but the other three sailed together (probably on the James and Mary out of Larne as members of the Rev.
