Newton Cannon land to Samuel Kitchens
In 1818, Newton Cannon of Williamson County, Tenn., sold almsot 100 acres of land in Franklin County, Tenn., to Samuel Kitchens for ONE CENT. Cannon was later governor of Tennessee. Can anyone think of why Cannon would have basically given Samuel Kitchens 100 acres of land? Samuel Kitchens named a son William CANNON Kitchens, born in 1821, but I can't find a family tie, yet. Samuel Kitchens married Martha Brooks daughter of John Brooks (wife's name was Stuart). Cannon married (1) Leah Pryor Perkins and (2) Rachel Starnes Wellborn, niece of NC Sen. Montfort Stokes...Cannon's mother was Letitia Thompson...I do not know the name of Samuel's parents ( he was born in Md. in 1772, was in Pulaski County KY in 1800)...Samuel left Kentucky and moved to Franklin County in the next few years...Perhaps his mother was a Cannon? If somone knows the answer to this mystery, please let me in on it! Also, for all the Samuel Kitchens researchers...John Kitchens was on 1800 Pulaski County KY list. Is it possible he was Samuel's father? He is older than Samuel, but of course, I don't know how much older...
