This is the information I have on Thomas Kittley, son of Thomas and Caroline.
He married Mary J. Waldrop daughter of Jason G. Waldrop.
(Reference Grace Batson Waldrop). He died 18 March 1863.
I have a copy of his Alabama Confederate Service Record. He is listed in the Roster of Confederate Soldiers
Kitley, Thomas AL Cav. 5th Bn. Hilliard's Legion Co. B.
Kitley, Thomas 10th Conf Cav. Co. B.
His widow received a pension.
Historical Records of Randolph County, Alabama 1832-1900 compiled by Marilyn Davis Barefield. Page 165 describes the Civil War Pension Records. This ledger containing records of the Civil War pensioners is located in the Courthouse in Wedowee, AL. The information provided is as follows: The name of the soldier and/or his widow providing he died prior to January 1899. Then is shown his rank, company, regiment, date and place of enlistment and the date and place of discharge, reason for applying for the pension, age at taking this action and the post office nearest his home. The last column in the ledger entitled "Remarks" often provided the death date of the pensioner.
Class IV Certificate number 12931 Mary Kittle, widow of Thomas Kittle, Private, Company B, 10th Reg., he died 18 March 1863. Remarks: widow died June 1902.
I have copies of these records and will copy them for you, if you will send your mailing address to me privately. There is another Mary J. Kittley who received a Confederate Pension in Cleburne County, AL. She was the widow of Jesse Briggs Kittley and she lived into the 1920s.
As far as Hopsons, I would like to know the connection between Sarah Hopson Kittley and Absolem Hopson. Also anything about where the Kittleys were before Walton County, GA. I believe that the mother of Jesse Kittley and Thomas Kittley was Amy, but I do not have her maiden name or their father’s name.
