Esther G. Bottolfsen, age 95, of Hartington, died on Sunday, January 7, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in Hartington.
Memorial Services will be 1:00 pm,Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington with Rev. Bob Bryan officiating. Internment will be in the Paragon Cemetery, rural Hartington.The Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington is in charge of arrangements.
Esther was born on August 24, 1911 at rural Wynot to Manuel and Arna (Haugh) Klanderud.She was baptized at the Lime Creek Evangelical Lutheran Church south of Maskell and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Obert.She attended grade school in the rural schools of Ames Creek, Pleasant Grove (Monument School), and Brookey Bottom, all in Cedar County.She attended the Obert High School for 3 years, which was all that was offered there.The last year of high school was attended at Wayne State College where she earned college credits and received her teaching certificate.She taught for 8 years in the Brookey Bottom School and the Lone Valley School.
Esther married C. Kenneth Bottolfsen on May 22, 1937 at Obert.Following their marriage they spent a summer in California and returned to the Hartington area in 1938 and began farming.In 1957 Esther went back to teaching at the St. James Public School for 3 years.She then taught at Branch School for a year and then 7 years at St. Peter School.When the school closed for the lack of students she taught at Mayflower School for 4 years.Her last 2 years of teaching were spent at Branch School.She retired in 1975 after 25 years of teaching rural schools in Cedar County.
Esther taught Sunday School and held office in the Women’s Organization of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Obert.She later became a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, the ALCW, and was the church librarian.She was a member of the Farmers Union in Hartington.
Esther is survived by 5 children, Gene Bottolfsen of Stillmen Valley, Illinois, Connie Loftus of Salix, Iowa, Arlis Burney and her husband Travis of Lincoln, NE, Dennis Bottolfsen of Sioux City, Iowa, Gary Bottolfsen of Hartington. 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Olga Bottolfsen of Hartington, Rachel Schneider of Phoenix, AZ, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth on Sept. 30, 1985, an infant sister, 2 brothers, a grandson, and a granddaughter.
