Re: Nicholas Knapp Genealogy Book
This response is two years after the original post, and I'm hoping beyond hope that the original poster of the holder of the Alvah Knapp letters will get this message.
The Alvah Knapp mentioned is in my genealogy documents which starts with Deacon Isaac Knapp b. 1767 in Charlestown, MA.He was married to a Rhoda Palmer.Their children are:
1. James Curtis Knappb. 1793 Elizabethtown, N.Y.;d. 1819; m. Arithusa (I believe this should be "Arethusa", which is more ironic than anyone would believe.) Bishop.
2.Ansel Knappm.Betsey Churchill May of 1816.
3.Joseph Champlain Knappb. 26 July 1808 in Westport or Elizabethtown, N.Y.; d. 29 Dec. 1878 in St. Armand, N.Y.; m. Martha Powers
4.Abigail Knapp d. Essex Co., N.Y.M. Unknown Cobliegh
5.Isaac Palmer Knappb. 14 Sept 1797 Westport, N.Y.; d. 1883 in Pierrepont, N.Y.; m. Margaret Chase 14 Nov 1821This is my line through my ex-husband.His family is through Isaac and Margaret Chase Knapp to Orlando James and Armina Cordelia Edmunds to James Harrison and Myrtie Sylvesta Fike Knapp to Hazen Harold and Zelma Wright to Jack Hazen and Phyllis Wheeler Knapp to my ex-husband. Orlando went to the west side of Michigan and settled there.I have a hunch it's because his cousin was the Ferris who started Ferris State College in Big Rapids, Michigan, just 20 miles N. of where Orlando settled.A Knapp married a Ferris and I believe Orlando was a cousin to the Ferris family, though I have no proof.Orlando was a merchant and the postmaster of Howard City, Michigan, where many of his descendents still live.
6.Calvin Knappb. 2 Dec 1819; d. 17 Aug 1885 Meigsville, N.Y.; m. Evalina Heath b. 2 March 1827; d. 29 March 1893.Their graves along with Deacon Isaac and Rhoda Palmer Knapp are transcribed here:
7.Alvah James Knapp d. June 1885 Clintonville, N.Y.;m. Jane Palmer who d. 29 June 1879
8.Nancy Jane Knappb.1793 Elizabethtown, N.Y.; d. 18 March 1874; m. James Lobdell, Elizabethtown, N.Y.
Yes, I would be very interested in the letters from Alvah Knapp detailing the Knapp family in Michigan and St. Lawrence Co., New York.
