Would like to add this to the Knauss/Varner information. The Varners lived in Salem Township, Luzerne County, Pa. and the creek where they lived was named Varner Creek. There is a map showing this on Luzerne County Genweb, and there are records showing other Varners but I don't know how they were related. The Varners came to Luzerne County from Northampton County, Pa. I believe I saw they may have lived around Allentown, which is now Lehigh County, but then was Northampton County. Samuel Knauss' brother Henry and his family went to the Noble/Elkhart County, Indiana area then to Harrison County, Iowa with Isiah Dungan and his sons Samuel and James and their families around 1852. Samuel Dungan's second wife was Nancy Armstrong Van Arsdaol Dungan, and she brought two of her children, Armstrong and Elizabeth Van Arsdol, with her. After Susannah died in Louisa County, Iowa, Sam Knauss and some of their children also came to Harrison County. Sam Knauss' son George Washington Knauss married Elizabeth Van Arsdol in 1861 in Harrison County, Iowa, and her step-brother Samuel Dungan, Junior, married George's sister Sarah in 1865. Nancy was my great-great grandmother.
