Martin, Joseph and Michael of Schnectady
Martin, Joseph and Michael Knefley (alternate spellings Knepfle, Knifler, Knipfley, Knifley, Niffly etc) came to the US sometime around 1840 we believe.Martin and Joseph brothers, and Michael 1/2 brother ....left family behind in Alsace or Lorraine... although from time to time they listed their homeland as Germany rather than France. They settled in Glenville, NY Schenectady County, NY. Martin, married Catherine Kerbig Smyth. Joseph married Anna, Catherine's daughter. Michael married Louise Beyer. Martin lists his trade as tailor. Joseph who lived much of the time just over the county line in Saratoga County was a farmer. Eventually Michael seems to have worked at one of the broom factories.Would like to hear from anyone with this name or with any connection to this family. Particular interests include: finding Martin's grave and learning where they came from in Europe.
Many of Martin's family ended up in Utica NY.. including my Great Grandfather George Martin Knefley, Martin's son. Joseph's family.... some of them ended up in Rotterdam Junction, NY. Michael's family... we know the least about. Some reports have them out near Buffalo in the 1960's.
Hoping to hear from some one.MB
