see: Virginia militia of the was of 1812. p 349. There is a Corporal Joshua Knibb listed served 5 months
26 days, in the Pay Roll of a Company of Infantry commanded by Capt John Pollock of the 7th Regiment
of VA Militia, under Gen J.H. Cocke in the service of the US from 8/1814 to 2 1815. same regiment Lt.
Thomas Curd; couple Woodson, Pleasants, Bowles, Watkins.
Joshua inherited extensive land holdings. His plantations were near "Westover" the ancestral home of
the Byrd family with its great plantation house on the James River bank near Charles CIty.Within
months of inheriting his father's lands, on 1/4/1792 he deeded a life estate in the Knibb plantation known
as "The Folly" in Westover Parish, Charles City County, to Samuel Brown. On 1/10/1795 Joshua and
Elizabeth deeded 179 acres to Benjamin Parker for L50. On 1/2/1795 they deeded 41 acres to Joseph
Crew for L41.On 12/7/1796 they deeded 100 acres on Herring Creek to William Irby for L100. On 2/23/
1797 he gave a deed of trust pledging 675 acres as collateral for a debt of L225 which was to become
due 3/1/1798. On 3/19/1798 to satisfy his debt they were forced to sell and deeded 438 acres of the
plantation on which they lived to John Stagg for L547. On 11/24/1799 they deeded 110 acres on which
Samuel Brown held the life estate to Littlebury Irby for L50. For the deeds to convey the full interest in the
property, Elizabeth, his wife, had to acknowledge in open court the release of her marital dower rights.
She appears reluctant to have done so, because the court records show that she was unavailable each
time to come to the courthouse. Instead for each conveyance to be recorded, justices had to be
commissioned to go to Elizabeth and examine her apart from Joshua, to confirm she had given up her
dower freely and without coercion from her husband. Joshua depleted his land, but not his need for cash.
On 3/24/1805 he had sunk to the point of pledging his horse, 2 steers, and 10 sheep, to induce William
Folkes to become Joshua's security for a L24 debt.

Courthouse record office, by Thomas B. Watkins regarding the wishes of Benjamin Watkins as he lay

Watkins and a John Watkins. This Thomas B. Watkins is probably the brother of Benjamin Watkins and
both the sons of Benjamin Watkins and Priscilla Binford.

as Frances Watkins’ father. All other info suggests that Benjamin is Frances'father. This is the Priscilla
