Charner Hopson Knight
I have just reviewed the 29 postings relating to Charner Knight. There is considerable confusion relating to Charner Knight. There at least two of them. The one most of the postings referreed to was born in South Carolina about 1808. He had a son named Abner. This Charner Knight is not related to Coleman Knight. My maternal great grandfather, Charner Hopson Knight was born in North Carolina, on January 11, 1810. He is the son of Coleman and Nancy Knight. He had at least three wives. The second wife, Tabitha Franklin, was my great grandmother. His third wife was Caroline Carrington. He died in Jefferson County, Alabama on March 19, 1878 and is buried in the old Rock Creek Church Cemetery in Jefferson County. The name "Charner" may be a corruption of the German name "Tscharner" and a Tscharner Knight is listed in the records. He may have been distant kin to Charner. I have a lot of data on this line of the Knights and any one interested can reach me at ttombatson@cs.com
