Re: Charner Hopson Knight
You are correct that there is some confusion with regard to Charner Hopson Knight. However, since there is no proof that any Charner is related to Coleman and Nancy Knight, I think it is misleading to state as fact something that is not known and to suggest that anyone who disagrees with you is wrong.
After much research and talking to many who are also researching this line, I believe that the following is as correct at this point in time as what you proffer:
Charner Hopson Knight married Sarah Davis first.Their children were:Abner B. Knight, b. December 21, 1830 and Thomas "Tommie" Knight, b. Abt. 1833. Charner and Sarah were both from South Carolina. After Sarah died, Charner married Tabitha Eveline Franklin in 1841.Their children were:Jesse Knight, Clarissa Knight, James Marion Knight, William Knight, John Hopson Knight, Duff Green Knight, McTyre Knight, and Nancy Knight. Tabitha died about 1862.Charner then married Caroline Carrington on December 28, 1863.Their children were: Joseph Knight, Benjamin Knight, Huel L. Knight, and Mary M.Knight. Charner died March 19, 1878.
If you give Charner a birth date of 1810, what birth date are you giving his mother Nancy?
Who are you noting as Charner's first wife?
Have you looked at Ken Knight's extensive research on these Knights? He does not have the 1810 birth date for Charner either.
Check the land records in Alabama. You will find Charner there and his children by Sarah Davis and their grandchildren all close by.
You do not know for a fact that Charner Hopson Knight is NOT the father of Abner B. Knight and Thomas Knight and not the spouse of Sarah Davis.
