CLAREMONT, N.H. --Dorothy Yvonne (Pitkin) Knight, 70, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at Haven Health Center following a long illness. She was the aunt of Patricia Smith of Brattleboro, Vt. Mrs. Knight was born in Acworth on April 6, 1935. She was the daughter of Julius William Pitkin Sr. and Lillian Mae (Kemp) Pitkin. She was raised in Acworth and attended Acworth School.She was a resident of Claremont since 1983. In the late 1950s, she worked at the Alstead Inn and had worked the family farm until the mid 1970s. She also enjoyed babysitting. She enjoyed family (especially her grandchildren, who called her “Nana”) and friends visiting, reading love stories, putting puzzles together, sewing and making potholders by hand. She married Clifford Fred Knight Sr. on Dec. 13, 1952, on Derry Hill in Acworth. Survivors include her husband of 52 years; one daughter, Elizabeth Ann (Knight) King and Bert of Claremont; three sons, Clifford Fred Knight Jr. and wife Tina of Lempster, Richard John Knight Sr. of Claremont, and Olney Karl Knight Sr. and wife Lisa of Enfield; three sisters, Jennie Arliss (Pitkin) Ells of Unity, Elizabeth Christine (Pitkin) Royce and husband Gordon of Monson, Mass., and Lake Placid, Fla., and Rachel Cecelia (Pitkin) Ames and husband Lowell of Somersville, Conn.; nine grandchildren, Trixie and Michael, Timothy and wife Robyn, Loretta, Billie Jo, Charley and husband Todd, Richard Jr., Samantha, Megan and Olney Jr.; and nine great-grandchildren, Conrad, Sara, Christa, Jarred, Shilo, Hope, Rabecca, Mercedes and Roman; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one granddaughter, Theresa Marie Knight; one grandson, Sonny Mitchel Armstrong; a brother, Julius William Pitkin Jr.; and three sisters, Margaret Ascenith (Pitkin) Knight and husband Olney, Lillian Eunice (Pitkin) Hill and husband Neil and Marion Lerneda (Pitkin) Taylor and husband Joseph. Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday at the Roy Funeral Home, 93 Sullivan St., Claremont, with the Rev. Donna Leslie, pastor of the Croydon Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Acworth Cemetery.
Friends may call at Roy Funeral Home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Acworth Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 86, Acworth, NH 03601. Arrangements have been entrusted to the ROY FUNERAL HOME.
