Hello,
I am researching the Kneissler families in Europe. If Kneissler is spoken the German and heard he American way, it sounds Knisley. I trace back to Thomas Kneissler in Prague about 1750.
The meaning of the word is anything like knot, nut, anything that is hard and rough.
First persons:
Gnaeus Tarquinius was the 5th king of Ancient Rome. There are at least 5 other famous Romans with the name Gnaeus.
Knut is the nordic Version of that name.
Chnuz was a noble Alleman around 771.
Gneuss is a noble family from 1100 to 1600 in now Austria and Germany.
Knaus is a common name in Austria, Switzerland and southern Germany.
Can you tell me, who was the first Knisley of your branch and from where in Europe did he come?
