Hi Tom, I believe I descend from the same Knowles line. My ggg Grandmother was Emma Watson, daughter (in theory) of Fannie Knowles and John Watson of Coffee County, AL.
Some of my confusion about Fannie is because her age chnages from census to census, by almost 30 years. Also her marriage date to John Watson is 6 years after my ggg Grandmother was born.
In any case, I have a copy of Emma's death certificate and it states that her Mother is Fannie Knowles. Could because she may not remember her real Mother, but it is all I have to go on.
Fannie filed a widows pension in Coffee County, AL to receive Johns CW pension. She lists her parents as Britton and Rebecca Knowles and says she was born in Harris County, GA in 1838. She married John Watson in Russell County, AL in 1861, again 6 years after her daughter was born.
So because of these discrepancies I haven't put much effort into researching the Knowles line. I have just sent off for Edmond Knowles's marriage record in NC. I am hoping that Thomas and Tabitha (nee Marchman) were married in the state also.
Anywho, I live in Houston County, AL, not far from Pike. I usually go up to Pike about once a month and I'll be happy to look for Thomas's land deed while I am up there. I have seen some Knowle's in the area in the older records, but again, not being an avid Knowles researcher, when I come across the surname, I'm not sure who I'm looking at.
I hope to get up to Pike later this week. I'll let you know what I find.
