Sylvester Kobe (1893) married to Mary Budzinski (1902)
I'm looking for any information concerning Sylvester as I can not trace his lineage back any further than I have. He lived in Pittsburgh and was a proprietor of "Kobe's Grill" on 4108 Penn Avenue. I believe now it is Pen Main Cafe. I was especially interested in the history of him coming since I was always told he was well to do and it was an arranged marriage to get him to America. I was curious if it had anything to do with the Yugoslavian communist takeover in 1918. I found a census form that he immigrated a year before in 1917. It says he spoke Croatian. So I assumed he was from there. I didn't know if he was somehow an Ashkenazim Jew getting out before the radical antisemitism began in Yugoslavia. I have records of his children. Frank, Helen, Anne May, and Catherine, who was my grandmother. I would appreciate any information anyone could help me with.
