Genealogy Update 2009
Nov. 2009- I have read much information that would suggest that the Kogok name may have been originally spelled "Kojok", just as it is pronounced. There are many people in Syria and Lebanon named Kojok, and it was derived from El-Kojok. I've also read that all ancestors who came to the USA from Palestine, Jordan, Syria & Lebanon before 1923 listed Syria as their country of origin. "Lebanon was under control of the Ottoman Empire from 1516 to 1918, prior to this date it was "referred to" as Syria. Tripoli became part of Lebanon in 1920."
There is mention of the Kogok family of DC at www.titastable.com (pages 24 & 27).
Fun Facts- "Kogok" is also: the name of a river near Nome Alaska, a coma shaped piece of jade, an Asian musical style, and a village in Korea!
Please add any comments or questions you may have Kogoks!!
