My understanding is that my grandmother, Anna Ciabola was sent to the US as a young girl by her mother from Prague to be a companion to a girl of a wealthy family in Cleveland. This was her mother's way of getting a better life for her daughter. My grandmother spoke 7 languages!!
My grandfather's origin (Krajnyak) is somewhat of a mystery. We assume he was Czech, although we understand that he traveled all over Europe with his father - like a peddler? Was in Russia during the revolution as a young man and escaped to England and finally to the US.
Thank you for your interest - I find it somewhat overwhelming trying to trace this side of my family as we know so little.
