Amalie/Amelia, Ferdinand -Germany/Poland

By Jeffrey Dreves December 02, 2000 at 06:18:07

Looking for information about my great grandmother and her parents. Here is the information that I have at this time:

Her name as it appears on my grandfather's certificate of birth was AMALIE KRIEGER. One of her son-in-laws, Hermann Mundt (a cousin to my grandfather) provided me with information about her. He said her name was AMALIE KRUEGER. On her gravestone the name reads AMELIA KREUGER. The dates on the gravestone are 1874 - 1948. According to Herman, she was born in 1876 in the village of Gowin in Wloclawek, Poland, daughter of FERDINAND KRUEGER (KRIEGER) and JULIANA TONN. She married SAMUEL DREVES (DREVS/DREEFS/DREFS) of Germany in the Polish village of Witoldowo. She joined her husband in Schenectady, NY when their third child was 8 years old - around 1908 or 1909. She and Samuel had 5 more children born in the US. None of the children that I was able to speak with, including my grandfather, believed that their mother was Polish. They all told me she was a German. One daughter very adamantly stated that Hermann gave me false information. But none of the children could tell me where their mother was born or when.

Does this AMALIE/AMELIA KRIEGER/KRUEGER/KREUGER, born to a Ferdinand and Juliana Tonn sound familiar to anybody??
