Charles Krieger (1855 - 1934)
Hello,
I have been doing some research on my dad's side of the family. My father was Joseph Thomas Krieger (1932 - 2003.He was born and raised in New Albany, Indiana. He was the son of John Augusta Krieger (1883 - 1945) and second wife Bessie Martin (1903 - 1993).I would like to know where my great-grandfather,Charles Krieger (1855 - 1934), is buried and some additional information on his wife.I am going to assume that Charles (Born: 1855) is buried at the Fairview Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana.
Charles (Born: 1855) married Lydia Isabel "Minnie" Johnson (Born: 1864).I cannot seem to find out when Lydia passed away and if she is buried at the Fairview Cemetery as well.
Charles Krieger (Born: 1855) was the son of Charles Krieger (Born: 1826) and his wife Martha __________.
Charles (Born: 1826) was the son of Ludwig "Louis" Krieger (Died:1849 - from Cholera) and Susanna Schuff (Died: 1870).
I do know where Louis (Died: 1849) wife Susanna (Died: 1870), son Lewis/Louis, Jr.'s (Born: 1824) first wife, also named Susanna Schuff (1832-1855), are buried. They are all buried at the Charlestown Township Cemetery in Clark County, Indiana.Lewis/Louis (Born: 1824) married his first wife Susanna Schuff on 6/17/1853 in Clark County, Indiana.Again, she passed away in 1855.They had a son Charles Krieger together - which isn't the one that I am researching.
Lewis/Louis (Born: 1824) married a second time to Matilda Joyce, an Irish girl, and daughter of James C. Joyce and Kathyrn Murphy of Ireland.Matilda passed away in 1935 and is buried at the Calvary Cemetery in Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky.
Ludwig "Lewis" Krieger (Died: 1849) and wife Susanna Schuff (Died: 1870) had a son named Jakob (Jacob) Krieger who was born in April of 1831.Jakob (Jacob) (Born: 1831) first married a Louisa _____ (Died: 1870/1880).By 1900, Jakob (Jacob) (Born: 1831) was still living and is found listed in the 1900 Kentuck Census for Jefferson County, City: Louisville with his second wife Clara A. Boedecker - who is listed as his domestic servant in the 1880 census records.By 1900, they have three sons together. In the 1900 census record, Jakob (Jacob) (Born: 1831) tells the census taker that he came to America in 1848 and has resided in America for the last 52 years. As far as I can tell Jakob (Jacob) never became a naturalized citizen. His second wife Clara A. Boedecker came from Germany to America in 1874.She lived to be 93-years-old.
In 1848 was the start of the March Revolutions in Europe.A series of revolts in Bavaria caused the abdication of King Ludwig I around the same time. Many Bavarian citizens left their homeland for America for peace and quiet.Around the same time there was an outbreak of Cholera in Germany.I wonder if Ludwig "Lewis" Krieger (Died: 1849) was experiencing symptoms when he left Germany for America.
A William Krieger is found listed in the 1900 Indiana Census for Floyd County. He too told the census taker that he came to America from Germany in 1848 and has resided in America for the last 52 years. His wife was born in France and she came to America in 1850.The Rhineland-Palatinate borders the country of France. As far as I know from my research, this William Krieger is not related to my line, but is probably a cousin though.
Jakob (Jacob) Krieger (Born: April of 1831 - Died: 1900/1910) is not to be confused with Jacob Krieger, Sr. (Born 8/23/1826) and who married Caroline Eglehoff/Englehoff - daughter of Michael.Jacob was a well-known business man and banker in Louisville, Kentucky.
The sons of Ludwig "Louis" Krieger (Died:1849) were all involved in the manufacturing of leather (Tanners).Jakob (Jacob) (Born: 1831) did become a store owner, and two of his sons became properitors of a drug store, etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Anna Walker
