Cripps, Crapes, Kreaps, Kripps??? Help!!!
For years I have been looking for the ancestors of David Cripps (to the best of knowledge, I am not sure of the origininal spelling). He was born in PA or OH May 5, 1827.His father was born in either PA or Germany. His mother was born PA or Germany. One or both of his parents may have died when he was young. He married Mary Friend Nov.3, 1850 in Hocking Co, OH.He moved from OH>IN>IL>MO and is buried at Poplar Bluff, MO with his wife Mary. They had six children: Aaron, Luelza, Allen, Elnora, Asher, Almira.I have been able to find all of them but, no burial place for Luelza. They were members of the Church of the Brethren religion. His census information varies as much as his children's.On some census it says that he was born in PA on most census it says that he was born in OH and then there are census of his children that say he was born on a ship coming to America. On some census his father was born in Germany and mother born in PA. There is also supposed to be an American Indian connection.Through his daughter Luelza, there is a bible that states David Cripps was 1/2 Cherokee Indian. She tried to complete an application to Cherokees of the East, but she did not have enough information. In the application she states that his Father's name was George Dan Burget and his mother's name was Saloma Burget (she spelled occording to how words sound so, this could also be Burkett or some other variation)She also spelled her father's name as Dafit, (is this a German variation) and why would his parents be of a Burget decent?Anyone, having any information on a Cripps (variation of the spelling) and Burget (variation of the spelling) connection or if you wish to share your thought, please contact me.
