The Bartley and Susan Kyle who sold the land were undoubtedly my family. My Bartley could not have purchased the land in 1818 as he would have been only 9 years old. There has always been an indication of an older Bartley Kyle, however I have never been able to connect the two.Morgan County was created in 1818 as the result of the Cherokee Turkeytown cession. The older Bartley must have already been in place or obtained the land through a lottery. The fact that my Bartley sold the property suggests that he may have inherited it from the older Bartley, perhaps as eldest son.
I have found no evidence that either Bartley ever lived on the land.The1830 Morgan County, Alabama census only indicates the families of Henry Kyle, of Marvin Kyle, and of Samuel Kyle. The 1840 Morgan County, Alabama census only indicates the families of Marvel Kyle, of William L. Kyle, of H. Kyle, and of G. T. Kyle. The 1850 Morgan County, Alabama census only indicates the families of Archibald Kyle and of Grant T. Kyle.
I still have never found a first wife for Bartley, if there was one.
There is a Barcley Kyle on the 1840 census of Franklin County, Alabama. He appears to be young for my Bartley, but only by one year.He is shown with two children under 5, a boy and a girl.My Bartley should have had two girls under 5 at the time of the census. However, census enumerators frequently made errors about the sex of children.
There is a B. C. Kyle, of the correct age, on the 1840 census ofLayfayette County Mississippi. In this case the children are too many and too old to be Bartley and Susan’s.
There is a Bartly Kyle on the 1840 census ofSmith County, Tennessee. In this case neither age nor children is as my Bartley’s should be.
I still have not run across anything to make a family link between Bartley and lawyer Marvin Kyle.
With the exception of this birth date, from the family Bible, I have no information on Bartley prior to 4 Jan 1838, when he was married in Limestone County, Alabama.
I would greatly appreciate and information that you may run across on either Bartley Kyle.
